Dear Families,
Hello! I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself, as I will be your child’s kindergarten teacher this year. My name is Erin Hoffmann, and I grew up in Waterloo. I, too, attended W. J. Zahnow Elementary School! I began teaching kindergarten here in 2005, and I am so fortunate to have the opportunity to work in such an amazing school district.
Let me tell you a little more about me. First of all, my friends and family are of utmost importance in my life. I love spending time with them, and I do so every chance I get. I am married to my best friend in the world, and in my opinion, the best man in the world, Steven Hoffmann. We have a home here in Waterloo, and we have a son, Adler, who was born in 2009, and a daughter, Ryan, who was born in 2013. We also have two Labrador Retrievers named Wrigley and Tacoma, who we love dearly. My parents, Robert (“Shoe”) and Terre Schulmeister live here in Waterloo too. You might know my sister, "Miss Schulmeister," as she teaches kindergarten at Zahnow too! I love country and oldies music equally, and I absolutely love to sing along loudly with my favorite songs, especially in my car where no one can hear me! My favorite food would have to be blue raspberry sno-cones. Somersaults are my favorite thing to do, although you probably will not see me do them at school. (But you never know!) Also, you will probably find a smile on my face most of the time, as I am generally a very happy person.
Now, for what is most important to all of you. I genuinely love working with children and am so blessed to be in a career where I can do so on a daily basis. In the past, I have worked at Lincoln Middle School in Edwardsville, primarily as a seventh grade math teacher. I have also worked at Creative Kids in Columbia where I taught pre-school. My student teaching experiences were all in the Champaign-Urbana area, as my degree is from the University of Illinois. Go Illini! There I taught first, second, as well as fourth grades. I believe these experiences have prepared me to be an outstanding kindergarten teacher for your child.
In my career, I have met many amazing children and made many wonderful memories. I look forward to getting to know you and your amazing child and making many more wonderful memories this year. If you have any questions or suggestions for me, or would just like to get to know me better, please feel free to talk to me at any time. I also would love to have you help out at school if you feel compelled. Your child will appreciate this too! Just let me know if you are interested. Thank you so much for accepting me as part of your child’s life.
Sincerely,
Erin Hoffmann
